About Peasedown St John Methodist Church
Peasedown St John Methodist Church is a Methodist place of worship on Bath Road in Bath, Somerset. Its congregation includes residents of Peasedown St John and neighbouring places. Worship is held regularly, with services using organ, keyboard or band accompaniment. The 1893 building has Grade II listed status and remains an active centre for Christian worship.
The church community began in 1874, and George Frederick Bodley designed the present structure, which opened nineteen years later. A substantial programme of refurbishment was carried out over the winter spanning 1989 and 1990. During those works, worship moved temporarily into the nearby church hall. In 1993, the congregation commemorated one hundred years since the building’s completion. The occasion included attendance by Jim Thompson, then Bishop of Bath and Wells, and an evensong featuring a sermon from the Archdeacon of Bath.
