About Church of St David
The Church of St David is an Anglican parish church at Barton St David in Somerset. Serving within the Wheathill benefice and the Diocese of Bath and Wells, it is designated a Grade II* listed building.
Construction took place over several phases between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, followed by restoration work in Victorian times. Built of stone with Doulting stone detailing, the church is covered by a tiled roof. Its plan includes a nave of three bays, a chancel of two bays and short transepts. The octagonal tower at the north-west, arranged across three levels, dates to the fifteenth century. A Norman doorway on the north side is fashioned from Hamstone. Although much of the interior furnishing comes from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the stone font is thirteenth-century. Memorials inside commemorate village men who took part in the First World War.
