About Church of St Peter and St Paul
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is the Church of England parish church serving Langham in Rutland. Originating in about 1250, it remains an active place of worship and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Its earliest fabric belongs to the 13th century. The nave arcades and chancel arch were created during the following century, while the aisles, transepts and clerestory came later, in the 1400s. Medieval features include a 14th-century font and carved decoration above the columns and along the walls. The church also contains a 16th-century oak chest and distinctive elephant carvings linked to the Owen family. Ninian Comper designed stained glass for the east window and a south transept memorial to Sir Henry Clarke-Jervoise. Other monuments commemorate Simon Langham, John Clarke and Baron Ranksborough. Near the southern entrance outside are the remains of a cross and the grave of Sir Kenneth Ruddle.
