About Saint Mary's Church
Saint Mary’s Church is an Anglican parish church in Glyntaff, near Pontypridd in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The oldest Anglican place of worship in the Pontypridd urban area, it now belongs to the Parish of Pontypridd and participates in Pontypridd Christians Together. The church has maintained an Anglo-Catholic worship tradition since at least the 1920s and was designated Grade II listed in 2001.
Designed by London architect Thomas Henry Wyatt, the church welcomed worshippers from April 1838. Its initially plain interior prioritised capacity, but substantial improvements followed in 1906, including oak seating, flooring and a pulpit, together with a chancel screen and reredos. A severe storm in 1913 destroyed the tower’s original pyramid-shaped roof, which was not rebuilt. A vestry was constructed in 1922, while the porch contains a First World War memorial. The oak screen and pews were taken out during alterations completed in 2022.
