About Noddfa Welsh Baptist Chapel
Noddfa Welsh Baptist Chapel was a substantial Baptist place of worship in Pentre, Rhondda Cynon Taf, in the Rhondda Valley. Recognised as a National Monument of Wales, it was noted for its size and elaborate character. The chapel no longer survives, having been demolished after serious fire damage made the structure unsafe in 1986.
The congregation developed from Nebo at Ystrad Rhondda, beginning with a vestry in 1866. David Morgan constructed the chapel, which opened two years later and was enlarged in 1876 as the local population increased. It accommodated about 1,000 people and contained three aisles, a gallery extending around the interior and an organ with three manuals. A lobby window depicted John the Baptist. The chapel also became an important musical venue, hosting choral performances and later serving as a base for Treorchy Male Voice Choir.
