About Miskin Methodist Church
Miskin Methodist Church stood on Glyngwyn Street in Miskin, near Mountain Ash in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Associated with the Methodist tradition in the directory record, it is recognised as a National Monument of Wales. The chapel formerly held worship in Welsh, but closed towards the end of the twentieth century and was demolished in 1995.
Its origins lay in a Sunday school overseen by Henry Eynon at the Bailey Arms, with support from members of Bethania in Mountain Ash. Gatherings later took place at 33 Victoria Street before increasing attendance led to the construction of a corrugated-metal chapel in 1896. That building was removed after four years to allow a larger chapel to be erected. Designed by Mountain Ash architect T. W. Miller, the replacement opened in 1903, accommodated 600 people and cost £2,947. Its building debt was fully repaid in 1923.
