About Ynyslwyd Chapel
Ynyslwyd Chapel was a Baptist place of worship at Sunny Bank Place, between Aberaman and Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Originally connected with Calfaria in Aberdare, it is recorded as a National Monument of Wales. The church ceased operating in 1996, and the building was demolished two years later.
Its congregation began with a Sunday school in 1858, following earlier gatherings in a large room at the Albion Inn on Cardiff Road, Aberaman. David Morgan of Treorchy constructed the chapel in 1862. Its name came from the estate that held the land, and Thomas Davies served as its inaugural minister. The congregation also helped establish Nazareth at Blaenllechau in the Rhondda Valley. In 1935, T. E. Thomas moved from that church to become minister here.
