About The Albert Hall
The Albert Hall stands in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and has historic links with local church life. Built for religious and social use, it later became a theatre and community venue. The Grade II listed building retains much of its early twentieth-century appearance, including the auditorium, entrance foyer and external form.
Completed in 1896 for £2,000, the hall was designed by Owen Morris Roberts for a Presbyterian congregation that required space for Welsh-language worship and gatherings. It originally seated 750, with a modest choir platform and a timber-seated balcony. Services took place there while the neighbouring church was enlarged in the early 1900s, and part of the basement became a schoolroom. Falling attendance led to its conversion for theatre and cinema use in 1922, when a decorative foyer was added by Owen Morris Roberts & Son. Welsh services continued in the building until 1951.
