About Errol Church (Cathedral of the Carse)

Errol Church (Cathedral of the Carse) serves the Church of Scotland community in Errol, Perth and Kinross. Standing on North Bank Dykes, it is also locally called the North Church. It continues to function as a parish place of worship and has been protected at Category A since 1971. The designation extends to the enclosing walls and gateposts.

Parish records reach back to about 1198, while a medieval predecessor was consecrated in 1243. Another church, completed on the former central site in 1765, was replaced after concerns about its condition. James Gillespie Graham drew up plans for the current building, which welcomed its first congregation in March 1833. John Lee Allen of Errol Park had provided the new plot, and the earlier structure was subsequently removed, leaving its burial ground. A commemorative clock was fitted in 1902, alongside repairs to the bells. The organ and communion table arrived through a bequest three years later. A silver baptismal font made in 1778 survives from the previous building.
