About Tullibardine Chapel
Tullibardine Chapel is a medieval place of worship at Auchterarder in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Now protected as a scheduled monument, it is regarded as an unusually intact example of a Scottish church from this period. The building has reached the present day with no subsequent alterations recorded.
Much of the church was constructed in 1446 for Sir David Murray, the Baron of Tullibardine, as both a private chapel and a burial place for his family. Murray relatives were interred there up to 1900. About 1500, Sir David’s grandsons, William and Andrew, either reconstructed or enlarged it by adding transepts and a modest tower. Heraldic stonework includes an exterior panel beside the chancel showing the arms of Sir David and Isabel Stewart. Further arms on the southern transept commemorate Andrew Murray’s union with Margaret Barclay.
