About Linton Chapel
Linton Chapel is a ruined medieval church in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland. Its surviving remains stand on Shapinsay’s eastern coast and are protected as a scheduled monument. The site is no longer used as an active parish church, but is preserved for its archaeological and historic importance within Orkney.
The church may have been founded as early as the 12th century, placing its origins in the medieval period. It now survives only as a ruin, and no evidence is provided for later rebuilding, restoration, furnishings or architectural additions. A prehistoric megalithic site known as Castle Bloody lies a short distance to the south, placing the chapel close to another monument from a much earlier period.
