About St. Andrew with Castlegate United Reformed Church

St. Andrew with Castlegate United Reformed Church is a worshipping congregation on Goldsmith Street in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Its current home dates from 1870 and was designed by Robert Evans JP. The building is recognised for its historic and architectural interest with Grade II listed status. The united congregation has occupied these premises since its formation in 1975.

The union brought together two traditions with much earlier roots. St Andrew’s Presbyterian congregation began in 1866, moving into the Goldsmith Street church four years afterwards. Castle Gate developed from Nottingham’s seventeenth-century Congregational community, whose church was formally organised in 1689. Once the congregations combined, they chose the former St Andrew’s property as their place of worship. Castle Gate’s previous premises later passed to the Congregational Federation for its national offices. A pipe organ at Goldsmith Street was reconstructed by J. W. Walker in 1936, followed by modernisation work in 1982.
