About Carrington Baptist Church, Nottingham
Carrington Baptist Church, Nottingham, formerly occupied premises on Sherbrooke Road in Carrington, Nottingham. The Baptist congregation no longer worships there, and the building is now used by Mount Beulah Apostolic Church.
The congregation began in 1846 through three people associated with Stoney Street Baptist Church. Early meetings took place in a Sherwood home, followed by rooms above the Co-operative Stores and premises in South Street. An earlier Methodist chapel on Wesley Street was acquired in 1856, and the congregation became independent in 1868. Foundation stones for the Sherbrooke Road building were set in place on 19 August 1882. Abraham Harrison Goodall designed its classrooms and lecture hall, which opened on 7 January 1883. The hall was intended to provide temporary worship space before construction of a larger chapel. A proposed move to Valley Road was considered in 1933 because the Sherbrooke Road site could not be expanded, but it did not proceed.
