About St Giles' Church
St Giles' Church is the Church of England parish church for Costock, Nottinghamshire, and stands on Church Lane. It continues to serve the parish and belongs to a group that also covers churches in East Leake, Rempstone, West Leake and Stanford on Soar. The building is Grade II listed in recognition of its architectural and historic importance.
The church has medieval origins. In 1848, architect G. G. Place enlarged it by adding an aisle on the northern side. A further restoration was carried out in 1862 under Gilbert Scott. These two Victorian phases are the principal recorded alterations to the earlier structure, comprising an extension that increased its internal space and a subsequent programme of restoration fourteen years later.
