About Church of the Holy Trinity, Berwick-on-Tweed

The Church of the Holy Trinity, Berwick-on-Tweed is an active Church of England parish church in central Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. It is protected as a Grade I listed building and remains a place of worship, while also hosting concerts, recitals, lectures and community activities. Its parish centre provides space for meetings and social occasions.

Built using stone removed from Berwick Castle, the church was completed in 1652, making it an uncommon surviving church from the Commonwealth period. Its plan was influenced by St Katharine Cree in London, with aisles flanking the nave and Tuscan-style arcades. Originally lacking a chancel, tower, bells and organ, it gained its present chancel in 1855. The west window dates from the same alterations and contains older Flemish glass roundels. Two small western turrets include one holding a single bell. The restored pipe organ has two manuals and pedals.
