About Saint Mary Magdalene

Saint Mary Magdalene is an Anglican place of worship on Church Walk in Kettering, Northamptonshire. The church belongs to the Church of England and is designated at Grade I, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural significance.

The building dates from 1050. Its principal features include stained glass at the eastern end by Sir Ninian Comper, an artist whose commissions also encompassed Westminster Abbey and St Mary the Virgin in Wellingborough. Comper produced the central eastern window near the beginning of his career, while the window on the south-eastern side followed roughly 50 years afterwards. The considerable stylistic differences between them illustrate the development of his work across those decades. A claim made in 2017 that the building was the Shrine of Hagius was subsequently shown to have arisen from a transcription mistake.
