About St John's Church
St John’s Church, on Church Walk in Corby, is an active Church of England parish church and the town’s earliest surviving parish church. This Grade II* listed building stands within the Old Village Conservation Area, at the centre of Corby’s historic settlement. It remains part of local Christian life, hosts community activities and supports Corby Foodbank through donations and other assistance.
The congregation may pre-date the Domesday survey, while a church was established on the present site during the thirteenth century, perhaps around 1217. Nineteenth-century accounts described the nave as older than the tower and chancel, which were attributed to a later phase of English medieval architecture. An 1848 description instead dated the building to the fourteenth century and identified its style as Decorated Gothic. The bells underwent refurbishment in 1933.
