About Yarm Methodist Church
Yarm Methodist Church is a Methodist place of worship in Chapel Yard, Yarm, North Yorkshire. It remains part of the Stockton Methodist Circuit, within the denomination’s Darlington District, and is protected as a Grade II listed building. Its continuing community activities include a youth club for children and young people aged nine to eighteen, alongside a group for mothers and toddlers.
The church was built in 1763 and has a distinctive eight-sided plan. Soon after its completion, John Wesley preached there during a visit to Yarm. In his journal, he praised the new chapel for its elegance and recorded that a substantial congregation gathered for worship early the following morning. Its eighteenth-century origins, unusual geometric form and connection with Wesley are central features of its history.
