About Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church stands on Skipton’s High Street in North Yorkshire. It is an active Church of England parish church and the town’s older Anglican place of worship. The building has Grade I listed status and belongs to the Diocese of Leeds, within the Skipton deanery and Craven archdeaconry. Its benefice is shared with St Augustine’s in nearby Draughton.
A church was established here in the early twelfth century, probably as a timber structure, while the present building originated around 1300. The east end was enlarged towards the close of the fifteenth century. Following Civil War damage, repairs in the 1650s were supported by Lady Anne Clifford. Austin and Paley restored the church in 1909, removing galleries and adding the north transept and vestries. Notable details include a 1533 rood screen, a font with a Jacobean cover, Kempe stained glass, Clifford family memorials, a west tower and eight bells cast in 1921.
