About St George the Martyr's Church
St George the Martyr's Church serves the Church of England community in Scackleton, North Yorkshire. Scackleton belongs to the Hovingham parish, whose parish church is All Saints. Although weddings are not normally authorised at the Scackleton church, two marriages have been celebrated there by special permission, one in 1997 and another in 2013.
The church dates from 1910 and is constructed from stone beneath a tile-covered roof. The nave leads directly into the chancel without a structural division, while slim windows with pointed heads admit light. At the entrance, an oak porch rests upon a stone foundation. Inside is a pine screen marking the chancel, together with a font relocated from St Peter's at Dalby. A bell hangs midway along the west wall, held in place by brackets fashioned from oak.
