Ripon Cathedral stands on Minster Road in Ripon, North Yorkshire. This Grade I listed Church of England cathedral is dedicated to St Peter and St Wilfrid. Since 2014, the church has served alongside two other cathedrals with equal status in the Diocese of Leeds. Sunday services are held at 8.30 am and 3.30 pm.
A monastery was established here in the seventh century, and St Wilfrid replaced its wooden church with a stone building in 672. Its surviving crypt remains beneath the later structure. The present church, the fourth on the site, largely developed from the thirteenth to the sixteenth centuries. Notable features include the Early English Gothic western façade, added around 1220, and the large Geometric window at the east end. Following an earthquake in 1450, the central tower was reconstructed, while the nave was heightened and aisles added between 1501 and 1522. The church became a cathedral in 1836.
