About All Saints Church
All Saints Church stands on High Street in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. It is an active Church of England parish church, sharing its parish with churches in Kirby Sigston and Romanby. The church is recognised as a Grade I listed building.
A wooden place of worship was founded on the site by St Paulinus of York in the early seventh century, followed by a stone building in 855. The present structure largely dates from the 12th century, with additions made between the 13th and 15th centuries. Its chancel was rebuilt in 1779 and replaced again during extensive works led by Charles Hodgson Fowler between 1882 and 1885. This restoration also repaired the outer masonry, straightened the transept walls, reopened blocked lancet windows and renewed window tracery. The pipe organ was made by James Chapman Bishop in 1818 and later enlarged. Ten bells, recast in 1962 and increased in number in 1991, hang in the tower.
