About St Laurence's Church, Kirby Misperton

St Laurence’s Church, Kirby Misperton is the Church of England parish church serving Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and holds Grade II* listed status, a designation awarded in 1953.

A place of worship is thought to have occupied the site since the tenth century, and several stones from that early building have been reused. The present sandstone church has a stone-flagged roof, with much of the nave, south aisle, vestry and tower base dating from the fourteenth century. Its porch and belfry were reconstructed around 1838, while C. Hodgson Fowler rebuilt the chancel in 1875. The west tower has two levels, buttresses, paired openings for the bells, pinnacles and a battlemented parapet. Three bells were recast in 1838 to mark Queen Victoria’s coronation. Inside are an octagonal font, early carved cross fragments, memorial stained glass and an 1891 oak lectern bearing a figure of St Laurence.
