About Church of St Margaret
The Church of St Margaret is an Anglican place of worship in Huttons Ambo, North Yorkshire, belonging to the Church of England. It has held Grade II listed status since 1954.
A medieval church originally served High Hutton, while Low Hutton had a chapel of ease. The chapel was removed in 1800 after falling into disrepair. By the middle of the 19th century, the church was also in poor condition and was replaced by the present building, completed in 1856 to a design by Rawlins Gould. Constructed from limestone beneath a slate roof, it follows the Early English Gothic style. Its plan includes a nave, north aisle, south porch and chancel, together with a vestry and organ chamber. A two-opening bellcote rises above the western end. Inside are the original organ, four 17th-century memorial tablets for the Talbot family, and a reredos incorporating 18th-century wooden paintings of biblical scenes.
