About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints in Foston, North Yorkshire, is the village’s Church of England parish church. It remains in use as a parish church and has held Grade II* listed status since 1954.
Dating largely from the early 1100s, the church retains much of its original walling. It is constructed from limestone, gritstone and sandstone, with stone slate and tiled roofing. The building comprises a nave, chancel, northern aisle and vestry, while a bellcote stands over the western gable. The west end was substantially reconstructed when its window was renewed during the 15th century. Changes made in 1911 included the northern aisle, porch and bellcote, along with a replacement east window; the earlier Norman doorway was moved into the new outer wall. Notable medieval details include a richly carved hood mould above the round-headed porch entrance, a circular Norman font and a 12th-century piscina.
