About Church of Saint Mary and All Saints

The Church of Saint Mary and All Saints is the Church of England parish church serving Cundall in Cundall with Leckby, North Yorkshire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, a designation granted in 1987.

A medieval church once occupied the site, but it was demolished after being described in 1823 as a small and modest structure with a newer brick tower. Mallinson and Healey designed its successor, which was finished in 1852. Built from limestone and roofed in Westmorland slate, the church follows the Decorated Gothic style. Its plan includes a three-bay nave, south porch, two-bay chancel, northern vestry and western tower. The three-stage tower features angled buttresses, a southern stair turret, clock, lofty bell openings and a battlemented parapet. Inside is an animal-carved Anglo-Saxon cross fragment dating to about 800. The timber altar rail belongs to the 1852 rebuilding, while the clock mechanism was installed in 1875.
