About Church of St Michael and All Angels

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is the Church of England parish church serving Cowesby in North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and has held Grade II listed status since 1990.

Cowesby had a church by 1227, but the medieval building was later demolished and replaced by the present structure, completed in 1846 to designs by Anthony Salvin. Built in a Norman-inspired style, the church uses stone beneath a stone-slate roof. Its plan includes a nave of three bays, south porch, short chancel and a centrally placed two-stage tower. The tower is crowned by a corbel-supported pyramidal roof with small openings and a weather vane. Rounded arches frame the main windows and entrances. Interior features include an altar rail dating from the 1600s and arched tablets displaying the commandments beside the east window.
