About Parish Church of St Peter
The Parish Church of St Peter is a Church of England parish church in Coniston Cold, North Yorkshire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, a designation awarded in 1989. After belonging to the parish centred on St Michael’s, Kirkby Malham, from 1987, it became part of the Gargrave parish again in 2008.
George Webster designed the church in the Early English style on a site given by James Braithwaite Garforth. Construction finished in 1846, with the dedication following in 1847. Built from stone beneath stone-slate roofing, it has a four-bay main space and a steeple at the western end. The tower rises through three stages before narrowing into an eight-sided form, with louvred openings for the bells and a low octagonal spire. Interior features include a three-tier pulpit, a compact organ gallery below the tower, clear lattice-patterned glazing and a braced king-post roof.
