About Church of the Holy Epiphany
The Church of the Holy Epiphany is a Church of England church in Barton-le-Street, North Yorkshire. The parish historically included the nearby village of Butterwick, whose residents contributed towards a lamp for the church at Barton-le-Street.
A chapel serving Butterwick was erected in 1859 from plans by Tuke and Metcalf, then altered around 1890. Built in stone, it has pointed lancet windows, a nave, chancel, northern porch and bellcote. Its interior contains a font transferred from All Saints’ Church in Slingsby, together with stained glass added to the eastern window in 1904. The Butterwick chapel was subsequently placed within the parish associated with St John of Beverley’s Church at Salton.
