About Motherwell Cathedral
Motherwell Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. Also dedicated to Our Lady of Good Aid, it serves as the cathedral of the Diocese of Motherwell and the seat of its bishop. The church remains an active place of worship and is protected as a Category B listed building.
Designed by Pugin & Pugin in the Gothic Revival style, the building dates from 1899 and opened for worship on 9 December 1900. It became a cathedral in 1948, following the creation of the Diocese of Motherwell. Changes to the sanctuary in 1984 removed the original high altar, two smaller altars and much of the decorative work.
