About St Mary the Virgin's Church, Wiggenhall

St Mary the Virgin’s Church, Wiggenhall is a former Anglican church in Wiggenhall St Germans, Norfolk, around five miles south of King’s Lynn. Now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, it is protected as a Grade I listed building and is especially valued for its finely carved timber furnishings.

The church has thirteenth-century north and south entrances, while most of the present structure dates to about 1400. Built from carrstone and brick in the Perpendicular style, it comprises an aisled nave, clerestory, chancel, south porch and three-stage western tower. George Edmund Street restored the building in 1862. Notable fittings include painted panels on the early sixteenth-century chancel screen, carved medieval benches, a brass lectern dated 1518 and an elaborate font cover from 1625. The church also contains the alabaster tomb of Sir Henry Kervil, an 1880 organ by G. M. Holdich and six bells, the earliest cast in 1638.
