About St Faith's Church, Little Witchingham
St Faith’s Church, Little Witchingham, is a redundant Anglican church in a secluded part of rural Norfolk, around 9 miles north-west of Norwich. The Grade II* listed building is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust and is especially significant for its surviving medieval wall paintings.
The church originated in the 12th century, although the present structure is chiefly 14th-century, with the west tower added during the following century. Built of flint rubble with brick and stone details, it comprises a nave, south aisle, chancel and battlemented tower. Inside, octagonal columns support arches ornamented with zigzag designs. The mid-14th-century paintings include the Evangelists, Christ after the Resurrection surrounded by the apostles, and scenes from the Passion. After falling out of use and becoming ruinous in the 1930s, the building was repaired and its paintings restored following their rediscovery in 1967.
