About Church of St Margaret, Felbrigg
The Church of St Margaret, Felbrigg, is an active Church of England parish church near Cromer in Norfolk, within the Diocese of Norwich. It is protected as a Grade II* listed building and shares a benefice with churches in Roughton, Metton, Sustead, Bessingham and Hanworth.
The church has medieval origins, with additions made in later periods. Its walls are built chiefly from flint, complemented by details in stone and brick. Sir Simon de Felbrigg commissioned the tower around 1410. The building once stood amid the original village, but a plague outbreak led to the settlement being relocated to the north-east during the 16th century, leaving the church apart from it. Memorials commemorate members of the Felbrigg, Windham and Ketton-Cremer families, among others. The organ, believed to have been made by Lewis & Co, was moved from St Botolph’s in Banningham and installed here in 1997 by Holmes & Swift.
