About St Michael's Church, Coston
St Michael’s Church, Coston is a former Anglican place of worship in the isolated Norfolk hamlet of Coston, within the civil parish of Brandon Parva, Coston, Runhall and Welborne. Now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Largely dating from the 13th century, the church is Early English in character and built of flint with dressed stone details, partly rendered walls, and slate or tile roofing. Its compact plan comprises an aisleless nave, chancel, southern porch and western tower. The tower’s crenellated top, enriched with flushwork, was added during the 15th century, while the flint-and-brick porch followed in the 16th. The eastern wall was later reconstructed, perhaps towards the end of the 18th century. Interior features include a knot-carved chancel arch, wooden pulpit, enclosed pews and a plain 15th-century font.
