About St Nicholas' Church, Brandiston
St Nicholas’ Church in Brandiston, Norfolk, is a former Anglican place of worship beside Brandiston Hall. The Grade II* listed building is now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The earliest surviving section is the tower’s lower stage, built in the 12th century. Parts of the north aisle also survive from that period, while the nave and remaining aisle fabric are mainly 14th-century. A chancel and south porch followed in the 15th century, although the chancel had disappeared by the 18th century. Major restoration took place in 1844, and the tower later received its octagonal upper stage. Built of flint rubble with limestone details and tiled roofs, the church has a round-based western tower, a three-bay internal arcade and medieval stained glass in the nave’s southern windows. Its seating and other furnishings are from the 19th century.
