About Dyke Parish Church
Dyke Parish Church is an active Church of Scotland place of worship in the Moray village of Dyke. Built in 1781 on the location of a medieval church, it remains in parish use today. The building has been protected at Category A since 1971.
Constructed in pinned rubble with dressed ashlar details, the church has a rectangular plan, six bays and tall, round-arched windows. A bellcote crowns the western gable, while the interior retains its original arrangement, including a U-shaped gallery and an unusual three-level pulpit. At the eastern end, a Brodie family mausoleum dating from about 1693 survives from the earlier church and now accommodates the hall and vestry. Gothic alterations included a porch in 1853 and remodelling of the southern elevation in 1867. Renovation in 1952 introduced a replacement ceiling without changing the 1781 layout. During the original construction, workers uncovered an early medieval Pictish cross-slab and approximately 100 coins from the twelfth century.
