About St Anne's Church, Rock Ferry
St Anne’s Church, Rock Ferry is a Roman Catholic parish church on Highfield Road in Wirral, Merseyside. Still serving its parish, it belongs to the Diocese of Shrewsbury and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Created for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the church followed plans prepared by Edward Welby Pugin, with Peter Paul Pugin and Cuthbert Pugin overseeing its construction. James Brown, then Bishop of Shrewsbury, placed the foundation stone on 9 May 1875, and the building opened on 28 October 1877. Edward’s intended tower at the south-west corner was not completed. The presbytery dates from 1884–85, while aisles were added along the sides in 1934. The Oblates remained responsible for the parish until September 2010, when the church passed to the diocese.
