About St Peter's Church, Parr
St Peter’s Church, Parr stands on Broad Oak Road in the Parr district of St Helens, Merseyside. This Church of England parish church continues to serve its congregation and forms part of the Parr Team Ministry alongside three neighbouring churches. It was granted Grade II protection in August 1985.
J. Medland Taylor designed the present building, which was constructed during 1864 and 1865 after fire destroyed an earlier nearby church in 1860. Its fabric combines yellow and red sandstone with copper slag, while slate covers the roofs. A spired tower rises at the south-west corner, with buttresses, lancets, bell openings and a doorway decorated with crossed keys and a quatrefoil. The interior includes arcades of six bays, circular designs for both font and pulpit, and a wooden screen from around 1920. There is also a memorial to the first incumbent, Abraham Augustus Nunn, and a Henry Willis pipe organ with two manuals.
