About Holy Trinity Church, Wavertree

Holy Trinity Church, Wavertree, stands on Church Road in Liverpool, Merseyside. It remains an active Church of England parish within the Diocese of Liverpool and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.

Built in 1794 to serve the parish of All Saints, Childwall, the church became an independent parish in 1867. Its stone exterior and slate roofing combine a Georgian main body with a Neoclassical eastern section. Charles Herbert Reilly reorganised the interior in 1911, extending the east end with an additional bay, apse and chancel, removing the side galleries and forming a baptistery beneath the western tower. The unstable upper stages of the tower were taken down during the 1950s. Serious fires led to restoration work in 1961 and 1971. Interior details include a west gallery supported by iron columns, a marble font and a 1972 pipe organ by J. W. Walker.
