About Church of St Dunstan, Liverpool
The Church of St Dunstan is an Anglican parish church on Earle Road in Edge Hill, Liverpool. It continues to serve as a place of worship and belongs to a joint benefice with two neighbouring churches, known collectively as St Luke in the City. It falls within Liverpool Diocese and has Grade II* protection.
Charles Aldridge and Charles Deacon designed the building, which was constructed for Thomas Earle’s family between 1886 and 1889. Its consecration took place on 18 May 1889. The exterior combines red Ruabon brickwork with slate roofing and features a copper-topped flèche, lancet openings, an octagonal pair of turrets and a sculpted image of St Dunstan. Brick also dominates the interior, aside from the circular stone supports of the nave arcades. Deacon designed its alabaster altar backdrop and iron reading stand. Memorial tablets commemorate the Earle family, while Burlison and Grylls supplied the stained glass in the western window. Internal changes were made in 1967 and 2014.
