About Church of St Clement, Liverpool
The Church of St Clement is located on Beaumont Street in the Toxteth district of Liverpool, Merseyside. It continues to serve as a Church of England parish church and belongs to Liverpool Diocese, within the local archdeaconry and the Toxteth and Wavertree deanery. The building is protected at Grade II*, reflecting its particular architectural and historical significance.
Designed by Arthur and George Yates Williams, the church dates from 1840–41. Its stone walls are covered by a slate roof, while the layout includes a nave of seven bays, a chancel and a modest faceted apse. Above the western section stands an eight-sided bell turret crowned by a small spire. Inside, iron pillars support galleries on three sides, and the organ occupies the western gallery. Further features include enclosed box seating, a double-height pulpit approached by a spiral stair fitted in 1892, and a star-painted vaulted plaster ceiling. In 1984, screening below the western gallery created a separate parish room.
