About Trinity with Palm Grove Church, Claughton
Trinity with Palm Grove Church is located on Alton Road in Claughton, Birkenhead, Merseyside. It serves both Methodist and United Reformed traditions and has Grade II listed protection.
W. and J. Hay designed the building, which was erected during 1865 and 1866 as a Presbyterian place of worship. Its present identity dates from the 1977 union of Trinity Presbyterian Church and Palm Grove Methodist Church. Built of rough stonework with red and yellow cut-stone detailing, it has slate-covered roofs, transepts, aisles and a spired tower at the north-west corner. Pointed windows and decorative tracery feature across the exterior. Within, a three-sided gallery rests upon square iron supports decorated with leafy capitals. Furnishings at the eastern end include an eight-sided central pulpit, a lectern and desks for readings, bordered by seating for the choir.
