About St John the Baptist's Church, Sutterby
St John the Baptist's Church, Sutterby, is a former Anglican place of worship near Langton by Spilsby in Lincolnshire. Now redundant, it is protected at Grade II and owned by the Friends of Friendless Churches, which has cared for it since 1981.
Originating in the 12th century, the church was enlarged during the 14th century, while its southern porch dates to 1743. The modest single-storey structure is built chiefly from greenstone, with areas of brick repair beneath slate roofing. It comprises a nave, a smaller chancel and a gabled porch. Notable details include several sealed medieval openings, trefoil-headed windows and a 14th-century entrance with an ogee arch. Inside are a medieval Decorated font featuring carved tracery, a damaged 18th-century pulpit and remnants of a Victorian screen. Substantial repairs took place in 2002, followed by further work from 2010 onwards.
