About The Parish Church Saint Margaret's
The Parish Church Saint Margaret's is an active Church of England parish church on Church Lane in Laceby, near Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Dedicated to Margaret of Antioch, it has room for about 300 worshippers. The church has held Grade I listed status since 1967 and belongs to the Diocese of Lincoln.
Parts of the nave and the tower’s lower stages originated in the tenth or early eleventh century. The upper tower was added during the fourteenth or fifteenth century, while the chancel and surviving arcade are mainly thirteenth-century. Ironstone, chalk and flint feature in the fabric, with dressed limestone details. James Fowler oversaw substantial reconstruction in 1869, adding a porch and vestry and altering the nave roof. Medieval grave covers were incorporated inside, and stained-glass portrayals of St Margaret and St John the Baptist were installed in the porch. Other features include a medieval mass dial, four bells, historic monuments and an organ chamber added in 1912.
