About Saint Peter's Church
Saint Peter’s Church is an active Church of England parish church on Church Lane in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Dedicated to Saint Peter, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building and belongs to a united benefice that also includes churches in North Cotes and Tetney.
The unbuttressed square tower, nave arch and chancel have origins in the 11th century, with later rebuilding carried out during the 13th, 14th and 16th centuries. Ironstone and limestone rubble, brick and concrete roof tiles are used in its construction. William Hay oversaw repairs and partial reconstruction in 1850, followed by further restoration in 1868. Notable details include a narrow round-headed tower arch, medieval windows, three bells and a 12th-century font decorated with cable and chevron patterns. A fragment of 10th-century interlace carving was reused within the chancel arch, while a carved mouse by Robert Thompson appears on the altar rail.
