About St Nicholas' Church, Fulbeck

St Nicholas’ Church, Fulbeck is a Church of England parish church in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, nine miles north of Grantham. Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, it belongs to the Diocese of Lincoln and the Caythorpe group of parishes. The church stands within Fulbeck’s conservation area and has held Grade I listed status since 1966.

Parts of the building date from between the ninth and early thirteenth centuries, including fabric at the foot of the chancel and tower. Built from limestone ashlar and rubble, it combines Norman and Perpendicular architecture. The aisles, entrances and porch were altered during the fourteenth century, while a clerestory and flatter lead roof transformed the nave in the fifteenth. Victorian work included rebuilding the chancel in 1871 and a substantial restoration by Charles Kirk in 1887–88. Notable details include a transitional Norman font, six bells, fragments of Anglo-Saxon carving and memorials connected with the Fane family of Fulbeck Hall.
