About Parish Church of St Margret of Antioch
The Parish Church of St Margret of Antioch is a Church of England church on Main Street in Swadlincote, Leicestershire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Designed in the Decorated Gothic style, the church has a three-stage tower crowned by a broach spire, with lucarnes and angled buttresses. Carved foliage adorns the capitals beside the southern entrance. Inside, the nave is covered by a five-bay hammerbeam roof, while the chancel has a blue-painted boarded ceiling and an arcade supported by an octagonal pier. The font is fashioned from Chellaston marble. Other notable details include a memorial tablet commemorating Edward Newcomen, who died in 1722, and his wife, together with surviving medieval glass thought to show St Margaret of Antioch. The vestry retains a pair of cusped windows facing east.
