About St Saviour’s Church

St Saviour’s Church in Leicester, Leicestershire, is a former Church of England parish church and a Grade II* listed building. It belongs to the joint parish of the Presentation of Christ, Leicester, alongside St Peter’s Church and the now-closed St Barnabas’ Church in New Humberstone.

The foundation stone was placed on 7 June 1875, and the completed church was consecrated by the Bishop of Peterborough on 21 June 1877. Given by the Revd Frederick George Burnaby, a former rector of Barkestone-le-Vale, it was designed by George Gilbert Scott in an Early English style influenced by thirteenth-century architecture. Osborne Brothers carried out the construction, with G. W. Wood overseeing the works. Stephen Taylor & Son made the pipe organ in 1878. A fire destroyed the church annexe on 28 October 2023.
