About St Cuthbert's Church
St Cuthbert’s Church stands on Nether Kellet Road in Over Kellet, Lancashire. It remains a serving Church of England parish church within the Diocese of Blackburn and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
The oldest surviving fabric dates to around 1200, although much of the present structure was built during the 16th century. Pebbledashed rubble walls, sandstone details and slate roofing frame a largely late Perpendicular design, with a four-bay nave, aisles, chancel, north porch and battlemented western tower. Lancaster architect Edward Graham Paley restored the building in 1863–64, removing the ceiling, restoring the chancel arch and reconstructing the eastern end. Austin and Paley carried out further work in 1909. Interior features include octagonal arcade piers, box pews, two fonts, the arms of George III, and memorials from the 18th and 19th centuries. Stained glass was fitted in the eastern window in 1868.
