About St Paul's
St Paul’s is a Church of England parish church on Church Lane in Leyland, serving Farington Moss. It remains in active use within the Diocese of Blackburn, and shares a benefice with St James in Lostock Hall. The building is protected with Grade II listed status.
Edmund Sharpe of Lancaster designed the church, which was erected in 1839–40 with financial support from the Church Building Commission. It was consecrated by John Bird Sumner, Bishop of Chester, in 1849. Built chiefly of brick, with stone detailing and red roof tiles, it combines a Romanesque nave and tower with a Gothic Revival chancel. J. A. Seward enlarged it in 1909, extending the nave by one bay and expanding the chancel. The four-stage north-west tower has corner buttresses ending in pinnacles, arched entrances and paired round-headed openings. The churchyard includes seven Commonwealth war graves from the two world wars.
